At Kowhai Painting Company, we place a lot of emphasis on painting your Auckland home to the highest possible standard. We manage this via our many years of experience, exemplary work ethic and can-do attitude, but preparation is also key to a world-class finish. After all, you wouldn't attempt to build a new home on a boggy marsh without first laying a solid foundation, and so it is when painting the exterior of your home.
Don't worry – you won't have to lift a finger! At Kowhai, we're renowned for our meticulous preparation processes that ensure we carry out the perfect exterior paint job, each and every time. Of course, every task is different, but we've mastered a range of different techniques to get your home right and ready for its new look. In this article, we're going to explain just what we do to prepare your home for a fresh lick of paint.
We're renowned for our meticulous preparation processes that ensure we carry out the perfect exterior paint job.
The preparation game
If the surface of the exterior of your home isn't completely clean (and let's face it, very few homes are), it's not yet ready for the paintbrush. There are several ways that we can get it nice and sparkling clear, ready for its first coat. The first of these is pressure washing, where a powerful stream of water is blasted onto the exterior, quickly and effectively removing any excess dirt and debris that might be present.
Even if the exterior is clean, should your home be covered in old, unsightly paint (cracked, peeling or faded, for example) then it must be scraped or sanded away. In our experience, we've found that these two methods can compliment one another when getting down to the bare wood of your home. We'll also seal, dust and plaster the surface if need be, so that it's just right for painting.
The prime of your life
Once we're sure that the exterior is ready, we'll prime it. Simply put, this is an undercoat solution that is administered to the material before painting. Priming the wood is of paramount importance, as this allows the paint to better settle on the surface, which will increase its durability. Additionally, the primer will provide additional protection for the wood underneath, ensuring a strong finish for years to come.
As soon as the priming process is complete, painting can commence. This is where you'll really see our efforts come together, as your home is given a new lease of life through a beautiful, professional job – one that will make your home stand out proud!
